What was happening
I was severely overweight. I am of average height by Indian standards but I weighed 72 kgs till last year. It was terrible. No clothes fitted, I couldn’t move properly. I used to play table tennis but even that I couldn’t play properly now. I have to tell you that I am a mother of 3 children.
What you were told
Doctors asked me to move more during the day. My husband and mother in law have always been supportive of me. But I could feel the discomfort in my body. I no longer wanted to go for shopping because it made me feel worse.
What you tried
I tried walking first With 4,000 steps a day without speaking on phone with my mother and friends. I tried to walk purposefully. This was last year. Then I took my walking to 6000 steps and now I am walking 8,000 steps daily except on weekends. On weekends my husband and I go to the gym and I am now lifting 45 kgs deadlift and bench press with 65 kgs. I feel excited now about my life and myself.
What helped
Going with my family to a public park whenever we can and play with our kids. It gives my life purpose. Yes I think it does. Strange but true.
What you wish you’d known
Lift weights in your 30’s but only under guidance. It helps.
